Spiderpaw's fur was still sticking up like a hay stack. He tried to make it drop down to it's usual height, but his nervousness wouldn't let him. He turned to Dapple and smiled lightly at her.
'She really is pretty...Look at those eyes...And that fur! Gorgeous...' he thought to himself, staring dreamily at her. A little nip on his ear woke him from his wonderland.
"Zeon!" the tom complained, even though he knew he deserved it.

Darkshadow tipped his head to the side again. Why did that companion bite Spiderpaw? He did seem to be staring at Dapple... and it was rude to stare...
"Alright then," he mewed gruffly. "Might as well get back to camp. Let's see how much you know so far, Dapple..." he trailed off, thinking ."Can you tell me which way you think our camp is?" Silently he got up, flicking the kinks out of his tail. Sapphire settled in on his shoulder, burrowing into his warm fur. Darkshadow sheathed and unsheathed his claws, ripping at the hard ground below his paws.

Dapple felt the fur on her neck tingle. Her first test to see if she was 'Clan Material', and her scent glands and mind went blank. Think Dapple! Oh! I smell a faint scent of cat, and it's getting stronger. Over there![/color]Her eyes lit up, and she exclaimed,

"Very good," Darkshadow rumbled. This little kit was promising. He thought once again about getting an apprentice. She would learn very quickly, and it would give him a chance to prove himself to his Clan. They walked back towards the camp in silence, until Sapphire spoke up.
"What do you think her companion will be? I hope it's a bird. Maybe even another Blue Jay. I..." she kept babbling on about random things, determined to keep up a conversation.

Dapple trotted back to camp gleefully. She'd been complimented! She thought intently for a while, and then ran up to Darkshadow's side.
"Umm... Could you explain the Clan positions for me? I don't really get why Spiderpaw is Spiderpaw and you're Darkshadow." she asked.

"I'll explain it to you!" he blurted out. "Alright, as you know, we are in Horizonclan. Every clan has a leader, and ours just happens to be the best leader, named Havenstar. Havenstar runs the clan; the one that makes all the important decisions. If you become a leader, you're name would change to Dapplestar, because leader's names always end with "star". Now, the leader has another cat that leads under them called the Deputy. The Deputy helps with the decisions and just the well-being of the clan. Our deputy is Desertrush. She kept her warrior name because she's only deputy, not a leader." he stopped for a breathe, then continued on going.
"Every clan has to have someone who heals them, which we call a Medicine cat. The Medicine cat, Nightstorm, has a den of her own that she keeps all her medicine and herbs in. Medicine cat's have a medicine cat apprentice to help them collect herbs, and if they're is a battle, to help heal all the wounded cats. Our Medicine cat apprentice is Giliapaw. She has "paw" after her name because she's an apprentice. All apprentices have "paw" after their name so that you can tell them apart from warriors. Warriors have different words after their name that describes their personality or something they did or what they look like. Take Nightshadow for an example. He's called Nightshadow because his coat is very dark and can blend in with the shadows easily. I hope that explains everything." Spiderpaw took a long gasp for air, happy that he was able to explain everything properly.

Spiderpaw gleamed with pride. "That's right! And soon, you'll be Dapplepaw just like me!" he bounced around a little and shook Zeon off many times.
The spider, very irritated, dropped onto his back and hid into the tom's fur to stay safe. There was a mumble of "--upid kittypet" before she was burrowed down deep enough to have some privacy of her own. Spiderpaw sighed.
"Well then, shall we go confront Havenstar?"

Hmm... I wonder how we're going to do this with Songeh gone for the moment..

Spiderpaw continued on to the warrior's explanation.
"There are tons of different kids of herbs, and each one has a special use. Although some herbs smell sweet, they sure don't taste like it!" he smiled encouragingly at her, waiting for anymore questions.

Spiderpaw thought about the question.
"You'll get your apprentice name once Havenstar acknowledges you as a clan cat. Then you'll have a ceremony where he'll deem you the name "Dapplepaw". he paused for a moment to catch his breath. "Who thought up the names....I dunno know actually. I've never asked that question before. Do you know, Darkshadow?"

Darkshadow snapped out of his haze. "Well.. um... the end of our names have been passed on for generations, only the oldest anscestors of StarClan would know," he mewed. "It's interesting how it happened... I myself also wonder why or how the names were chosen."
Sapphire flitted about on his shoulder. "Does anyone see Havenstar?" she chirped.

"StarClan are our warrior ancestors," Darkshadow explained. "When cats die, their spirits travel to hunt with them. Every star in silverpelt... err.. up above," he mewed, realizing that she would not know the term for the sky. "Represents a warrior. They come to the medicine cat through dreams to give them prophecies, and sometimes visit other cats too."

"That's right!" Spiderpaw mewed, "And sometimes Starclan will visit you in a dream to tell you something. Usually, they only come to the Medicine cat and the medicine cat apprentice, but in some rare cases they have come to just normal clan cats."
He yawned and sat down to lick the dirt from his paw. The hot sun beated down on the apprentice's back, making him want to doze off on the spot.
