Autumnpaw beamed with pride, the expression visible even past the prey she was carrying. She nodded silently to her mentor, for once too tired to chatter. The meat shoved in her mouth made it hard, too. She conentrated, trying hard to keep her eyes open as she followed Mountainfang back to camp.
((TIME SKIP! XD))
The next morning, a muted beam of sunlight woke Autumnpaw. Like always, she yawned, stretching her long legs, and sat up, looking around for Crimson. He was up above her, nestled in the same overhang that he always was. He was fast asleep, his little bright red sides rising and falling with his steady breath. The sun's rays slowly shifted, and Autumnpaw watched as they landed on Crimson and made his scales sparkled.
The little she-cat smiled, whiskers twitching as she watched her companion sleep. He was truly magnificent. She was so lucky to have him. Thank StarClan. She wondered if all HorizonClan cats felt so happy when they were around their companions. She doubted it, she felt something special with Crimson, but she really had no way to know.
With another yawn, Autumnpaw sat up all the way. Her tail twitched as she bent down to give her chest fur a quick lick. She was sore all over, but not that sore. She was still eager- overly eager, in fact- to continue training with Mountainfang. At this rate, she'd learn all it was to be a warrior before the next gathering! She gently reached a paw up and prodded Crimson in the side. "Crimson," she whispered, mew taut with excitement. "Wake up! We've got to eat now so we can be ready to start battle training with Mountainfang and Sasori."
Crimson groaned as he opened his eyes, but the expression in them matched Autumnpaw's. He too was ready for training, it seemed. "Okay," he yawned, opening his mouth as wide as he could. "I'm ready if you are!" He launched himself off of his bed, landing neatly on Autumnpaw's shoulder. "I call a leg," he told her.
Autumnpaw purred. "You're getting better and better at that!" she mewed happily, trotting out of the apprentices den. She made her way to the fresh kill pile, fishing a piece out from the bottom as to save the hotter, moister pieces for the respected warriors, queens & kits, and elders. She swung her head around, holding it in the air as Crimson tugged a front leg off of the mouse.
Chewing, Autumnpaw sat down and put her prey between her paws. With a lick of her lips, she looked around for Mountainfang or Sasori. Were they awake yet?

Mountainfang woke with a small twinge between his eyes and saw that Sasori was prodding him with one of her claws. "Come on, sleepyhead..." she muttered to him. "Your apprentice is awake..."
Mountainfang glanced to the entrance, where the sun was already shining straight into the warriors den. He groaned as he stood up and stretched. He still felt like sleeping, but he knew that Autumnpaw and Crimson were waiting. He shook the small patches of moss from his pelt, and let Sasori climb up onto his leg before slipping through the entrance.
"Good morning," he meowed quietly, as he came up behind Crimson and Autumnpaw. "I can assume that you are ready to train?" he asked.
Sasori clicked her claws happily, ready to teach Crimson how to fight with her warrior. She could tell that Mountainfang was excited too; his tail flicked back and forth and his eyes went from Autumnpaw to Crimson, which was strange for him. He normally sat still. She didn't care though, these two were their apprentices, and they needed to be taught.

Autumnpaw looked up at Mountainfang and Sasori. All that was visible of her prey was the tail, for she had snapped up the rest in one big bite. She shifted on her feet, quickly chewing and swallowing it, so that she could talk to her mentors. She gave her paw a quick lick and swiped it over her face before she spoke, embarrassed that they had caught her in such a messy moment.
Crimson was still eating the leg on her shoulder, and was quite.. in the middle of it, but he looked up anyways and gave Mountainfang and Sasori a nod of greeting.
"Hi!" Autumnpaw mewed at last, a smile spreading across her small face. "I'm ready, yeah! Are you?" she purred. "I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sore from last night. All over the place, actually. But that doesn't stop me from wanting to train! You're probably not sore.. since you're such a strong warrior.. but I don't know, maybe we tired you both out or something..." she trailed off, forcing herself to stop talking. She felt energized after her mouse, more energized than she'd been in a long time. Now that she knew how much fun training was, she couldn't wait to get started again.
Crimson, finished with his mouse leg, let out a quick "Hi!" as well. He flicked his small tail as he settled into a more comfortable position in the crick of Autumnpaw's neck. "Battle training's gunna be so fun," he said to the group. "I can't wait!" He blinked, and was silent for a moment. "Sasori, how am I going to help Autumnpaw fight without just being a nuisance?"
"You're not a nuisance," Autumnpaw assured him in a soft murmur, but she too looked up for Sasori's answer.

Sasori clicked her claws in amusmement at the look on Autumnpaw's face with the mouse still in her mouth. It wasn't often you caught someone in that kind of position, but it was entertaining when you did.
Mountainfang kneeded the ground tenderly. "My paws are still sore, but other than that I'm fine. You'll get used to being up and about, and you won't even feel it soon enough," he meowed. He smiled at Autumnpaw, who had gone rambling off again.
Sasori glanced at Crimson. "We will train seperately for a short period of time, I guess, so you two can both learn how to fight seperately." She glanced at Mountainfang. "In case you are ever seperated in battle, which, of course, we hope will never happen, but we have to be ready for everything." Mountainfang nodded while Sasori continued, "After a bit of induvidual training we can probably bring it back together for Warrior-Companion training."
Mountainfang glanced at Sasori, who clicked her claws. "That'll work," he purred. He stood up. "Shall we go going?" He turned and didn't wait for her answer, and padded across camp to the training grounds in the dark forest.

Autumnpaw nodded as she listened to her mentors. That made sense.. of course she knew that Crimson was strong enough to fight for himself, but the concept of separating hadn't yet entered her mind. Though she hoped that they would never have to use these single techniques, she had no doubt that Crimson could survive perfectly fine without her. "Sounds good!" she mewed, stopping herself from talking any more. She knew if she picked a new topic to branch off of, she'd have a hard time stopping.
Crimson, who seemed to sense his Companion's confidence in him, shifted restlessly on her shoulder. "I get my own training!" he whispered in her ear. "I never thought it would happen.. I hope I do well!" He slithered down her leg, landing with a small thump on the ground. "I might as well stretch before we start, so I'll go with you.. on foot, shall we say?" he laughed.
Autumnpaw giggled. "Yeah.." she mewed. "And I'm sure you'll do great. Make Sasori proud!" With a grin, she took off, her long tail waving behind her. She focused on the sound of her pawsteps and the blurred shape of her mentors ahead of her. With the wind rustling her fur, nothing else entered her mind.
Crimson slithered off after her, unusually fast for what one would expect from a snake. He smiled, flicking his tongue in and out as he moved. It wasn't often that he traveled on his own, away from Autumnpaw, and he found he liked it. Though he knew that he would get tired soon, he savored the moments of feeling.. alive. Just feeling purely alive. He burst into the training grounds after Autumnpaw, navigating quickly towards where Sasori now stood by scent alone.
"Hi!" he mewed, sliding to a stop in front of her. He was easily 2 or 3 times bigger than her already, not even being full grown, but that didn't stop him from looking down at her with respect. "So, what are we going to do? I've never trained away from Autumnpaw before... should be fun! Did you train away from Mountainfang when he was an apprentice?" the young snake asked.
Autumnpaw watched behind her as Crimson met up with Sasori before turning back to Mountainfang. "That was a good idea," she murmured, looking thoughtfully at him with a tip of her head. "Well.." she mewed. "I've never done battle before, and I can't say I'm particularly excited about it. I'm.." She looked down at her paws in embarrassment. "I'm actually pretty clumsy."

Sasori looked up at Crimson. She honestly had no clue how she was supposed to train a snake; all compainions faught differently from species to species. She curled and uncurled her tail before answering. "I trained just a little bit seperately, but there wasn't a whole lot that a mammal could teach me," she said quietly. "I pretty much taught myself."
Mountainfang smiled at Autumnpaw. "You'll do fine," he purred. "You just have to coordinate your feet and make sure you pay attention to everything around you at all times." He glanced at his paws for a moment, trying to think of what to teach her first.
Sasori glanced at Mountainfang and Autumnpaw for a moment before looking back at Crimson. "Well, if you do get seperated from your warrior at any time in battle," she began, "You have to try to keep an eye on her at all times. You may just fall off, or strike at someone who is coming up from behind them, and get seperated, and you should try to get back together as soon as possible... You are strongest together." She clicked her claws, thinking of how exactly to train a snake other than talking. "Umm... If you do get seperated, it is best to make sure you are covered on all sides at all times," she explained. "Without your warrior, you have no one to look after you, and no one to look after but yourself. For you, it would probably be best to wrap up a bit, and get down low, so you can strike easier..." She tipped her small head, not quite sure how snakes faught. "Defend yourself when needed, and strike at your enemies when they aren't expecting it."
Moutainfang thought for a moment, listening to what Sasori was telling Crimson. "Okay... As Sasori told Crimson, you have to keep an eye on your compainion... If you don't, and you lose them, you won't be able to focus on battle without worrying about Crimson. Otherwise, I can teach you basic fighting moves that are complicated with your companion around you." He stood and crouched down low so his haunches were in the air, his head was down covering his chest, and his paws were spread out and ready to strike. "If you are going to battle protect your belly area..." he started. "Then you can fight. Watch your oponents moves, and aim for their ears, face, and if you can, their stomache... But if you can only hit their flanks, that works too. Look for an open spot on them, and the most basic move is to just strike forwards with one or both of your paws at them." With this, he took a few very quick steps forward and swatted at her nose with one paw, then switched and hit her with the other along the shoulder, with claws sheathed. "Just make sure they don't know what you are going to do beforehand..." He sat back. "You try."

Crimson nodded, listening intently to his mentor. She sounded uncomfortable, like she either didn't want to teach him or didn't quite know how. He hoped it wasn't the first, for he didn't want Sasori to be unhappy. He could understand the second, a scorpion teaching a snake was a very peculiar thing. However, he was sure that she could do it. He debated over reassuring her that for a few heartbeats, then decided against it. It might make the relationship between them even more uncomfortable. He didn't want that to happen with one wrong comment.
"My color... since I'm so.. bright, that will make me really easy to see, won't it?" he pointed out, feeling a little sad. Why did he have to be so colorful? He thought for a moment. "Well, don't cats usually fight on the forest floor, where there are leaves? What if I buried under them like this.." He stopped talking to dive under the cover of the dry, rustling leaves. Only his head showed as he curled himself up tightly. "And then sort of.. hid.. until a warrior was close enough to-" He leaped up with a hiss, opening his jaw and closing it before he touched back down to the ground. "Strike?"
Autumnpaw kept her eyes on Mountainfang, trying not to distract herself by watching Crimson and Sasori. He could tell her what he learned later, for now she needed to concentrate on what she could do. She nodded, thousands of questions flashing in and out of her mind that she wanted to just blurt out. She stopped herself, trying hard to listen. This is what, out of all she would learn, she would need to work hardest at.
She crouched down low, copying her mentor's stance. She was completely still for a moment as she looked for his weak points. There, in between his leg and stomach, was a soft spot that didn't look like he was tensing it. All of her previous questions leaving her mind, she pondered ways to get at him without him knowing.
Realizing she was staring right at that spot on his leg, she switched her gaze to his eyes instead. "Okay," she mewed to him before quickly springing forward and dashing to the right of hi. At the last second, she turned and jumped to the left. She almost tripped over her paws, but caught herself at the last second and tipped forward, planting her unsheathed paw right on the uncovered spot on her mentor, a little harder than she meant to. She hoped she hadn't hurt him, but being that he was a good five times heavier than her, she didn't think she did. "Sorry!" she gasped.

Sasori watched as Crimson displayed his strategy, and nodded. "Yes, that would work very well," she responded. "If they aren't expecting it and come over the top of you, it would work in your favor a lot." She glanced at Mountainfang and Autumnpaw for a moment, then turned back. "Honestly, any strategy that allows you to get a surprise on your oponent without endangering yourself is what you need to do... And battles can be so unpredictable, you may just need to do what you can in a split second. Hiding in the leaves would work well, if there are leaves... If it is Green Leaf and the leaves have blown away, however, you may just protect yourself..." She drifted off, not quite sure where she was going with this.
Mountainfang watched Autumnpaw's eyes, watching her stare directly at an open spot, and flicked his tail, expecting her to leap at him like that. When she shifted her gaze to his eyes, and lept to his right, he was about to dodge, but she slipped to his left he was slightly off balance, and she smacked, claws unsheathed, on his side. He winced, not expecting her to unsheath her claws, but then smiled. "That is exactly what you need to do," he purred. "You may have to make your decision a little faster in battle, but faking your opponent out nearly always works... And can be very effective."
He glanced at the spot where she had nicked her, and didn't see any blood, so he continued on. "Next I can teach you another move... That is best when your opponent is smaller than you are." He took a deep breath, then suddenly jumped onto his back paws, and landing on top of Autumnpaw, hard enough to knock her over but not hard enough to smash her into the ground. With his paws still on top of her, he continued. "This may be harder if you are fighting a larger cat, since they will be harder to bowl over, but if they do the same move at the same time, you have a bit of an advantage, since you have a open hit at their stomach..." He prodded her side with his paw, then lifted himself off of her. "See if you can do that."

ooc:// Oops.. the unsheathed paw thing was a typo.. XD Oh well, makes it more interesting! I can totally imagine Autumnpaw accidentally doing that, anyways.. XD
ic:// Autumnpaw beamed up at her mentor, happy that she hadn't fallen flat on her face- yet. She nodded. "Okay.. that's a good idea.." she murmured through his talking. When he asked her, once again, to try, she took a deep breath. Looking where her paws were, she was still for many moments before leaping forward in another attempt to surprise Mountainfang. In her sudden haste, she forgot that she was supposed to be leaping up into the air, and not forward. With a gasp she stopped and lifted her front paws off the ground, using her tail to balance as she swayed precariously back and forth.
With another small gasp, she squinted and tensed her muscles as she felt herself falling forward. She landed successfully on Mountainfang's back, but her stiff legs gave out on her, and the combination of that and her mentor's long, silky fur made her slip. With a small yelp of surprise she fell, landing shoulder-first on the hard ground.
She groaned with anger and embarrassment at herself, knowing that something like that would have happened sooner or later anyway. She got up, wincing as her shoulder twinged with pain. "I knew I would do that," she sighed. "And if I do that in battle, I'll die!" She flattened her ears and looked at her paws, silently cursing her clumsiness.
Crimson felt the vibration when Autumnpaw hit the ground, and instinctively swiveled his head around. He winced with her, sympathetic, but quickly turned back to Sasori to prove his concentration to her. However, what she was saying was starting to not make sense. How could he protect himself without.. anything? She hadn't explained it, but he didn't know whether she was done speaking or not. "Okay.." he mewed, nodding to show that he understood so far. "Protect myself by.. just slithering away everywhere? Or using other cats for protection- cats on our side?"

Sasori glanced at Mountainfang and Autumnpaw when she heard a cat collapsing on the ground, then turned back to Crimson. "Um, well... If you are in a crowded area of cats, you can use other cats as protection and strike when needed, but if they are more spread out, as long as you don't have a cat coming after you, you can try to slither back to your warrior... The best thing you can possibly do is get back to your warrior. You fight best together." She really didn't know what to say. Mountainfang always made sure she didn't fall off, and if she did he remained in the same spot so she could get back on withint a few heartbeats. "Every battle is different, and you have to act differently in every situation." She drifted off again, not sure how to go on. It was true, this training could only go so far in a real battle.
Mountainfang watched every movement as Autumnpaw stumbled, slipped and fell hard on her shoulder. He had a pang of sympathy when she said that if that happened in a real situation she would have died. "We'll... work on that one..." he meowed, trying to be comforting. "Should we work on a move where you need to be on your back to accomplish? It can be very effective if you do get knocked over in battle."

Crimson nodded, listening hard to his mentor. He blinked as she drifted off again and again. Maybe she really didn't know what to teach him. This made him nervous. Was there nothing he could do to help himself in battle, without Autumnpaw? He thought for a few moments, gazing up at the lightening sky. Suddenly, he jerked his head back down as something occurred to him. "Sasori.." he trailed off. "What if I have to fight another companion without their warrior?"
Autumnpaw nodded, her gaze still fixed on the ground and her tail still drooped. "Why do I have to be so.. mousedunged.. clumsy?" she muttered to herself. With a sigh, she looked back up at Mountainfang. "Okay," she mewed, trying to keep her tone of voice determined. "I guess we could try that." She padded forward, wincing again, but only slightly, as her injured shoulder stretched. With an oof, she let herself fall in front of Mountainfang, and rolled over onto her back as she tried to keep her shoulder from touching the ground again. "Ready!" she told him.

Sasori glanced up at him, surprised at his sudden question. "Well," she thought, "I've never actually been in that kind of situation myself, honestly, but that is definately something to think about..." She paused for a moment, thinking of a way that a snake could fight another companion. "It depends on the companion you are fighting... With me, being a scorpion and all, it would be simple enough to just prod them with poison..." she flicked her tail forward in an automatic motion, basically thinking out loud. "Though, with a garden snake, it could be more complicated, and it would depend on who you are going up against..." She thought for another moment, thinking of the basics of the companions she had seen in the clan. "If you are fighting a small mammal, it would be easy enough for you to strike at them simply, and the same goes for other smaller, less threatening reptiles..."
She took a breath. "However, if you are up against birds, you have a disadvantage... They have the air, and can swoop down and fight you and get out of reach before you can even strike..." She hesitated again, not even sure how she would fight them. It was a very good thing to think about. "You would have to try to stay under things, leaves, grass, brambles, other cats, so they would be able to get at you, I suppose... And for poisonous reptiles, well, I don't know... If they are larger than you, just get back to your warrior. If not, stay away from whatever is poisonous and strike at them as much as you can." She sighed, not sure if that helped any. "Honestly, single companion fighting is mostly theoretical teachings, and it is hard to train you to get ready for it in battle... I'm sorry..." She looked at the ground suddenly, feeling bad for just talking so much.
Mountainfain noticed Autumnpaw's wincing as her shoulder bumped anything, and made sure to be gentle with her until she learned how to defend herself quick. "Alright..." he hesitated. "If someone is to get you into that position, and is about to come down on top of you," he stood onto his back paws, lifting his forepaws into the air as if to strike down on her, "Their belly area is almost always revealed, and even in that position it is easy to get a good aim at it." He sat back, catching his balance. "Try it out..." He got back up onto his back paws, and acted as though he was coming down on top of her, though his claws were sheathed and he wasn't really going to bite her or anything.

Crimson listened, nodding throughout Sasori's teachings. He blinked once or twice, for her methods did make sense. He hoped with all of his heart that he would never have to go against a bird or larger snake, he was scared to death, but he wasn't about to tell his mentor that. Anyways, he thought to himself. What's the possibility that I'll have to fight a warrior-less companion? Crimson stared at his mentor a few seconds before he realized that she had finished talking. He had heard everything, of course, but was just unfocused.
"It.. it's okay!" he stuttered, shaking his head as if to clear it. "It's really okay.. I like listening. Better than fighting, actually. It hurts less." He chuckled at his own little joke, then shook his head again. "I think my brain works better than my body in that way. I have a feeling I'm going to remember what you told me.. but I still can't get the hang on staying on Autumnpaw's neck when she's running." He nodded, surprised about the truth in his own words. He wasn't usually able to make good speeches like that. Usually they came out like mumbled fox-dung. "If.. if you're worried about training," he added quickly. "Then maybe you could.. I don't know.." he trailed off and hissed at himself in annoyance. His brilliant speech- his magic words- the effect had died off instantly with that one stupid comment.
((ooc:// Poor Crimson.. he was so happy.. XD))
ic:// Autumnpaw winced slightly at the sight of the huge tom above her, though she knew Mountainfang would never purposely hurt her. Gritting her teeth, she stiffened her muscles, staying completely still until Mountainfang was almost upon her. When he was, she flipped herself around so that she was on her stomach, then lashed out, kicking back with her hind legs as if to catch her mentor in the stomach. Luckily, she had more control over her paws this time, and they stopped harmlessly inches from his long fur.
"How was that?" she gasped, scrambling back up into a sitting position and shaking the dust from her pelt. "I don't know if that was a real fighting move, but.. it felt good, and I didn't accidentally hurt you again, and I didn't fall over, either, and oh- do you think Crimson and Sasori saw?" The young she cat twisted around so fast she half tripped over her own paws. With a gulp, she slowly turned back to Mountainfang. "Sorry," she chuckled. "I guess I got a little.. excited again." She smiled, giving her tail a small flick of happiness.

((ooc://Oy... sorry)) Sasori gave a sympathetic face to Crimson, feeling bad how his inspired speech came to a screeching stop as he stumbled on his words. "It's alright..." she muttered. She thought for a moment. "I suppose we could try practicing on each other," she suggested. "It would be some practice." She stood straighter into a more defensice stance, with her poison tipped tail protectively above herself. "Don't worry about hurting me," she said, shifting on her legs. "I have a shell... I'll just try not to poke you." She stepped a short bit to the side, suddenly excited for a play battle-her very first. "Just try to pin me down," she said quickly. Mountainfang shook his head at Autumnpaw, smiling. Her excitement entertained him, it gave him something to smile at. "You did great," he meowed. "You'll be a master fighter in no time." He purred at the thought of his apprentice becoming a strong warrior; a great hunter, master fighter, and with the will and loyalty of a leader. He snapped back to reality, looking at the apprentice. ((Okay, I don't know if I want to keep teaching one move at a time... possible time skip again...? ; Sorry.))

ooc:// It's okay. I know the feeling, sure we can wrap this up with a time skip. XD Just.. do whatever works best for you. ^^
ic:// Crimson nodded eagerly at Sasori's request. A chance at last, to try out his new skills! Is this what it felt like to be an apprentice.. a real warrior apprentice? He stifled a gulp, however, as his mentor promised to try and keep the sharp point of her tail away from him. If, by some mistake, probably his own clumsiness, her spike dug into his hard plated skin, would he die? No- if it was that dangerous, Sasori wouldn't be willing to try it. But the small snake still felt a twinge of doubt as he quickly coiled into his own battle position.
With a small whispering hiss of confidence, Crimson sprung forward, almost disappearing completely into the leaves as he neared his mentor. At the last second, he sprang up, to the left of her. With a grunt he twisted himself around, landing with an oof across her back. He glanced up at her poison tail, inches above his head, before pressing himself more tightly to her back and winding somewhat around her to touch the forest floor again. It wasn't much, but due to the fact that he was at least three times bigger than Sasori, it worked.
Autumnpaw smiled brightly up at her mentor. She never thought that she would be this good at fighting already- in her kit-hood, she had dreamed of embarrassing herself by doing something so, for StarClan's sake, stupid that she may even hurt herself. Proud that she hadn't, at least, not too badly, the little she-cat smiled broader. She stood up uncertainly and padded nearer to her mentor. "Thank you, Mountainfang," she mewed quietly, rubbing up against the bigger tom. "This is a lot of fun. Really."

Sasori was slightly surprised and caught off guard when Crimson shot under the leaves and appeared next to her, just to land on top of her. Her small legs collapsed underneath her from the extra weight, and she nearly broke into a laugh when she found she couldn't move. "Great job," she said, struggling to move. "Now get off of me before I poke you." She waved her tail around playfully, being extremely careful not to poke him. She wasn't going to, but she was kind of getting crushed under the snake's weight. Mountainfang nodded. "I'm glad you're having fun," he mewed. He felt a twinge of happiness that he was teaching her so well, she was a fast learner, and he could never have asked for a better apprentice. "Well, let's get started again..." he meowed, getting into another defensive stance. Sasori took a few deep breaths, finally able to breathe again. "Good... That'll work on almost any opponent that is smaller than you, as long as you pin down anything that can still strike you." She waved her tail, adding to the comment. "On larger companions, though, it'll probably be harder to do..." ~~~ ((Too lazy... Time skippeth...)) Mountainfang glanced up towards the sky, sitting himself down on his sore hind legs. "No wonder I'm gettng tired..." he muttered. "The sun is almost gone..." He sighed. "That was a long day's training, Autumnpaw." he mewed. "You did well. Keep practicing those moves..." He stood, signaling to Sasori that they were leaving. She skirted across the ground to climb onto his shoulder. "Anyways, get something to eat get some rest, both of you," he added the last bit as Crimson came. "We will all sleep well tonight." He started back towards camp, making sure that they stopped for their prey before they forgot it. (( Meh... minor power playing, major laziness... Anything you want to add?))
