Darkshadow shook his large head. "She's the gray one, with the long fur," he explained. He paused, studying the cat she had asked about at first. A dark colored, small she cat with a snake on her shoulder. No, that wasn't Dapplepaw, but he couldn't figure out who it was. "Actually..." he started. "I don't know who that little one is. I guess so many new cats are coming in that I can't keep up with it," he admitted in a rumble.
He eyed her curiously, moving his tail in a sudden, random twitch. Either he was very much out of practice socially, or she was definitely acting strangely. He secretly hoped that she would spill something about her troubles. With in inward laugh, he thought, If I act unresponsive, why should she open up? Sapphire did a little hop on his shoulder, and he once again guessed what she was thinking. He would probably be a lot harder to be with if she weren't there to tell him, in her own special way, not to be nosy.
Autumnpaw smiled. "It certainly is a different experience," she mewed, turning her head slightly to smile at her Companion. "To tell you the truth, I didn't even want a snake!" Crimson flinched on her shoulder. "Don't worry," she assured him. "You're helping me get over my fear." She turned back to Dapplepaw. "Here, look!" she mewed excitedly, thrusting out her paw to show her the small scar that sat there. She could sense a story approaching, and she smiled at the thought.

Hailstep &. Vasco
- - - - - - - - -
Something inside the Warriors den stirred. A tail twitched and a single dull-amber eye opened. Uncoiling, the gray-and-white tom yawned. Rising to all fours, he stretched. The other eye opened with a bit of trouble. It seemed crusty, but this was normal. Swiping his tongue around his jaws, he wished for a drink of water right about now. Hailstep blinked a few times, clearing away all the blurriness. His lips pulled back into a large smile as he realized most of the warriors where gone. "Let all cats of HorizonClan come before me and rest below Low Log." Ah, so a Clan meeting! Jumping up and down slightly, he made his way toward the den. As he laid a paw outside, a brisk coolness pricked at his paw. "Brr. Pretty cold this morning, ehh? But, I'm just a freeze baby." Chuckling to himself, he made his way out into the clearing. All of his happiness seemed to vanish as he realized that so far, he found no one he knew. He bunched up, and held his tail close. His teeth clattered together, and he let out a small squeak. His ears pricked up and he forgot about something. His Companion! He turned around, almost toppling over the bird."Ouh, I am terribly sorry, Vasco! I forgot about you this morning.." Vasco simply nodded as a sign it was okay, and it looked as if a smiled crossed his beak. Hailstep smiled brightly at him and pawed his beak before pressing forward.
Another member that he could keep his eye out for would be Shadepaw. For some reason, Hailstep felt as if he had been pushing the young apprentice off. He was sure he didn't, but his heart just kept telling him he did. But either way, Hailstep wanted to make it up to him. Without yelling, the tom parted his jaws and rose his voice just a tad. "Shadepaw! ..Shadepaw..? Shadepaw!" Hailstep wasn't sure if the other Clan members could hear him or not, he just wanted to find his apprentice before the meeting started. With a sigh of disappointment, he stopped and sat on the ground with his gaze on his paws.[/Blockquote]

Briarstream smiled slightly then meowed jubilantly as she spotted Dapplepaw, "Ah! So that's the apprentice I've been hearing about. Come to think of it, I have seen her around.." Her voice trailed off as her happiness faded quickly into a scowl at herself. How could she have possibly not realized that she knew so few cats? Her persective brightened as Darkshadow seemed to be having the same problem. She smiled at him and said, "Hm.. you're right on that one. Way too many to keep up with." She blinked and looked at the sky, "So. How's Sapphire? I hear a lot of Companions are disappearing or acting strangely." She stuttered as she tried to make conversation, "Uvicon's one of those companions."

M yna//: Ooc//: Technically, I have Vinescar's bio finished. Except for the fact that he doesn't have any family. I was wondering if it would be okay to make him a brother/sister that I controlled. Thankies. Bic//: Spiderpaw//: ----------- A long yawn could be heard inside the apprentice's den -- someone was awake. The birds outside, pecking on the ground, flew away as soon as they spotted the brown tom emerging from the den. He looked into the sky, letting the rays of the sun burn on his back. Slowly, he stretched out his forelimbs, extending them until pain shot up to his neck. Just around the time when he was going to stretch his back out, a voice called into the morning air: "Let all cats old enough to cats their own prey join me beneath the Low Log." The tom's ears twitched in only slight annoyance. As fast as he willed himself to go, the apprentice padded towards the Low Log. He sat in the farthest row of cats, moving his tail back and forth, waiting for the meeting to start. The cold air nipped at his fur. 'It's rather cold for a morning like this...' he thought to himself. There was a whispering in his ear; the tom's fur raised off his back. 'For Starclan's sake Spiderpaw, it's just me." a voice whispered. "What's got you so shaken?"The fur rested back down on Spiderpaw's neck. "Nothing nothing. You just gave me a fright." He sighed, watching his breath turn into mist in front of his own eyes. "Imagine that..."Although the tom had lived in Horizonclan since before he could remember, he barely knew any of the cats in his own clan. He could match faces with names, but nothing more than that. He didn't know their history, the battles that they faced, the lives that they lived. He didn't know if they were mated with another cat, if they had kits, or if they spoke to Starclan. Really, the apprentice only had a limited amount of knowledge. He was drawn out of his thoughts as the leader, Havenstar, started the meeting.

Darkshadow looked at her with concern. "Really?" he mewed. He twitched his shoulder, and, relieved, felt the presence of his companion, warm and comfortable next to his head. "Don't worry, I won't let you out of my sight," he mewed to her, smiling broadly.
Sapphire giggled. "I'm not going anywhere on my own will," she said determinately.
"I am sorry," Darkshadow started, "about Uvicon. How.." He paused, realizing this might be a touchy subject for Briarstream. "How did he disappear?" he finished in almost a whisper.

"Well.. I was up on Eagle's Craig one day." She began hesitantly and decided to skip the part about the reason why she'd been there that day. Why she'd been stalking Twistedsong while he went hunting with another she-cat. "And I was following some prey. When I finally caught it.." She choked at the words, in dusgust at how much truth was within this lie. How in ways it was so close to the truth, that if she changed a few people in the lie they would fit exactly, yet how far it was away from the actual characters in the story. "I turned around to show Uvicon. But-" She took in a deep breath forcing a smile, "he was gone. I'd assumed he'd just gone back to camp ahead of me. I haven't seen him since." Her voice had quieted astoundingly by the last sentence and her eyes were filled with deep sorrow. Still, it felt good to have this off her chest. To have someone know the partial- if not whole- truth.

Falconpaw was relieved Goldenpaw had changed the subject. He pricked his ears, "Rokku's the same as ever, but I know Sungazer's Companion, Saeo, disappeared. I've tried to keep Rokku in my sight, because I don't know what would happen if I lost him. I'm actually very scared to lose him." he realized that he'd just poured out what he'd been needed to say for a while. "Falconpaw...." Rokku whispered in a barely audible voice.

Dapplepaw stared at the scar on Autumnpaw's leg.
"How did you get it?" she asked in wonder.

Darkshadow listened intently the whole way through, blinking in surprise at the end. That simply? Her companion had disappeared in the blink of an eye, never to be seen again? He promised himself, again, that Sapphire would never leave his sight- better yet, his shoulder.
"I... I'm so sorry," he mewed sincerely, not knowing what to say.
"It's a long story," Autumnpaw sighed, smiling. "But I guess we've got enough time!" With a deep breath, shifting her shoulders, she began.
"After my old Clan..." She took another deep breath, forcing back tears at the memories. "ValleyClan... after it was attacked by rogues, I got lost. I was a loner for a long time, and I can tell you, it wasn't a pleasant experience. I had to eat whatever I could find, which often meant..." She shuddered. "Dead animals... plants.. and bugs. Anyways, I was walking in a... particularly long stretch of field one day, and I found a snake lying on the ground." She stopped, glancing at Crimson. She hoped this little bit of information wouldn't bother him.
He nodded, almost as if he were reading her thoughts. "Go on," he urged her.
Autumnpaw nodded, then began again. "I thought it was dead... and I was hungry, so hungry. I must have been tired, too, because I must have not noticed it move. I walked closer.. and... it got me. I was in so much pain for such a long time. I thought I was going to die- I hoped I would die! But, thank StarClan, I healed enough to continue on. Then I found HorizonClan." She finished her story, falling silent. Peeking up at the other apprentices, she wondered what their reactions would be like.

Spiderpaw's eyes got wide.
"You-you heard that Zeon? That cat back there...He almost...died? Autumnpaw has been through so much!" a shudder went down his back.
Zeon sighed. "Spiderpaw, you have to understand something. We are just a small clan of cats in a world of millions of creatures. The area that we live in is sheltered from the rest of the world. The older cats that live here already and that have been to other places know what it's like. They know pain, sorrow, desertion. Maybe one day you'll learn Spiderpaw. Maybe one day..."
The apprentice didn't reply. 'If that's how it really is, then I have a reason to work even harder than before. I will protect my clan!' He thought.

Dapplepaw's eyes widened, "That's.... that's...." her normally happy spirit darkened, and her personality swung again. "Awful. To think that the world could be so cruel. Why does StarClan leave cats to perish? I only heard of StarClan about seven sunrises ago, but as soon as I heard, I knew that they existed. I mean, the wonderful cats of this world have to go somewhere, right?" her eyes closed, and she whispered, "If you ever think that my life as a kittypet wasn't hard, you've got bees in your brain. My twolegs, although they loved me, often forgot to feed me, and I had to starve, as I had no training to catch any animals. They shaved me every warm season, and that was torture. I liked my long fur, it gave me something to do. And every time I tried to free myself..." she gulped, "they'd hit me across my back with wood."

ooc:// Since I finally got a HorizonClan cat...
bic:// Mountainfang://
A multicolored tom jumped awake as a loud call echoed through the warrior's den. He glanced around wide eyed for a short moment, before he realised it was just a call for a meeting. He stood up and arched his back in a massive stretch, before sitting back down. "Sasori, there's a clan meeting," he whispered to his compainion.
The small black scorpoin twitched slightly, then uncurled it's small, sharp tail to stand. "A meeting...?" she asked quietly, sounding surprised. Before the cat could answer, she turned and crawled up his leg, making him cringe for a half second before relaxing again. She made her way up to his shoulder, then onto his head, resting between his ears. "We haven't had a meeting in a while, have we, Mountainfang?"
Mountain fang glanced up, but could only see the tip of Sasori's sharp claws. "Nope..." He then stood again and padded towards the entrance of the den. He squinted slightly in the bright light until his eyes adjusted to the sun. He slipped out of the den just in time to hear the end of Autumnpaw's story about being stuck eating whatever she could, and he glanced awkwardly in her general direction, since he never really got a chance to hear any of her stories. He was surprised. She didn't seem like the kind of cat that would have to survive on anything she could find...
He turned away so he wouldn't be caught staring at her, so he glanced up at his companion again, who had settled into his fur more. "You've been quiet lately..." he mewed. "Is something bothering you?"
The small scorpion tensed and clicked her claws, but didn't reply. Mountainfang didn't want to push the subject, so he found a shady patch of dirt, and hunched down in a sqwatting position. He could see the low log, and yet he could listen to the apprentices' conversation. He looked back up at Sasori, who had relaxed again, but still hadn't spoken. He felt her legs folding underneath her, and it felt like she had fallen asleep anew.
Mountainfang sighed, and wrapped his tail gently around the front of his legs, covering the white patches on his paws.
